Applications and Admission to School
At the start of the new autumn term, we will have 187 children on roll.
Parents considering sending their children to Osbaston Church in Wales School are welcome to meet the Head Teacher and to view the school whilst it is at work. We hold an open afternoon for prospective parents and children in the autumn term, but are more than happy to meet individual families for a guided tour of the school, answering any questions you may have. Please telephone the school for an appointment on 01600 775070.
The school will admit children at the beginning of the school year in which they become five, without reference to ability or aptitude. Entry to the Reception Class may be through half days during the first week of the Autumn term (depdendent on our intake numbers). This allows children an opportunity to settle into their new daily routines.
The Local Education Authority, in consultation with the school governors, decides our admissions policy. Priority is given to those children whose families live within the school’s catchment area. Many families outside this area also choose to send their children to our school.
Because of the restriction of 30 places per class, we ask that parents register their children for admission well in advance. All admissions are made through the Local Authority (Monmouthshire).
The school’s catchment area generally covers Osbaston, Monmouth town (between the two rivers) and up to the Herefordshire border. For help with admissions you should contact Monmouthshire’s School Admission Unit on 01633 644644. It is also helpful if you contact the school indicating your intentions. We are then able to plan ahead for your child’s entry to the school.

At the end of their primary education with us, most children transfer to Monmouth’s popular Comprehensive School. A number of pupils also transfer to one of the Haberdasher’s schools. We work closely with local secondary schools in trying to ensure a smooth transition period for your child. Year 6 pupils participate in well planned transition days with Monmouth Comprehensive School, enabling them to meet and work with staff and pupils at their new school.
